Each year, our chapter hosts two philanthropy events- Mr. MSU and Strike-Out to support our cause, arthritis research. With the rising rate of arthritis among women, as well as the population as a whole, our philanthropy is very dear to AOII and the girls in our chapter. Arthritis exists in the form of over 100 diseases; thus, it is critical that funding is allocated to research and treat this illness. That is why Delta Omega strives for bigger and better philanthropy programs each year. Our chapter has reached the "Alpha Circle" level within the AOII Foundation, meaning we have donated over $70,000 to arthritis research.
Mr. MSU is our famed philanthropic male pageant held during MSU Parents Weekend. This year our program will take place on September 16, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. The production will be themed Dancing Through the Decades. This production will feature not only musical hits and dances that we remember from decades past, but we will be celebrating the past 30 years of Mr. MSU as well. We are all very excited to see who all will compete for this year’s title. The campus body and local community will fill the seats of Lovett as MSU males compete for the title of Mr. MSU 2011.
Strike-Out is our annual bowling tournament that is held during the spring semester. Several organizations on campus enter a team to compete at our local bowling alley in Murray. We help coach the organizations and cheer them on during the games! This year Strike-Out will take place on March 26th. Last year, we raised over $1,000, and are looking forward to donating even more money to the philanthropy that we care so much about.
Since 1967, nearly 1.3 million in grants have been awarded to qualified researchers to find the causes and cures for arthritis.
One of the founding principles of Alpha Omicron Pi is to be of service to others - to bring into the world around us a spirit of love, not for self-glory, but as an opportunity to give something back to our communities. Each AOII chapter and its members may choose to organize and participate in various fund-raising and hands-on service events.
