A message from the President, Amanda Winchester
As the President of the Alpha Omicron Pi chapter here at Murray State, it is my distinct honor to welcome you to our webpage. My hope is that after review, you will understand what our organization is founded upon and how we, as sisters, desire to make a lasting impact upon our university and surrounding community. The sisters of our Delta Omega chapter are beautifully unique but fundamentally similar regarding the values we place at the forefront of our lives. These values become apparent to our peers by the way we dedicate ourselves to philanthropic efforts and countless community service events.
Alpha Omicron Pi was established as a means of sisterhood but also as an organization that would place its emphasis on helping others in need. We carry out this responsibility by hosting two philanthropic events annually. During the fall semester our chapter puts on the greatly anticipated Mr. MSU Pageant. This male pageant is open to the entire campus and community. Every year, some of Murray State’s most outstanding male students compete to win the esteemed title of Mr. MSU for that academic year. The event helps us raise over $10,000 yearly for our philanthropy which is the Arthritis Foundation. In the spring, we host the Strike-Out Arthritis softball tournament. It is fairly new but equally as successful.
Not only do our members participate in philanthropic efforts but they also manage to be very involved on campus as well. We have women who hold offices in most every major organization at MSU. Our involvement includes the student government association, the student alumni association, the student ambassador program, multiple honors societies, and so much more. Last year, our very own Rayna Gordon was crowned Ms. Murray State 2013.
As you can see, the sisters of Alpha Omicron Pi have very detailed resumes. However, an impressive resume is not the only thing we develop over our four years of college. I can attest to the fact that being a member of AOII has given me the opportunity to develop some of the most meaningful friendships that I have ever experienced; friendships that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. Being an AOII is a blessing and I’m so excited that you are interested in learning more about this organization. Enjoy browsing our website! I hope you learn all about the pandas here at MSU!!
